Defining Keywords and Search Terms

undefined

Research relies heavily on the keywords and search terms that are used. Similar to the topic, these terms should not be too general or too specific but right in the middle. Do not be discouraged when results are not found, this is a process and takes multiple tries to find what is needed.

Our databases work differently than Google, whole sentences can't be used, instead choose the most important words.

Cross out unimportant and little words like "on, that, the".

Pro Tip:

  • Use synonyms or similar words for each search term.

Ex.

Teens: Adolescents, Teenagers, Young adults

  • To find the reasoning behind a chosen topic, "Why do we need books?"  try words like:

Importance, Significance, Benefit, and Value

Ex. Importance of books
