Getting Started with Overdrive

The free Libby app is the easiest way to get started with ebooks and audiobooks from Reedley College library. All you need to do is download the app and sign in to our library using your campus credentials to begin browsing the digital collection. Reedley College students, faculty, and staff do not have to create an account in OverDrive. Access is automatically connected to your single sign-on.

Getting Started

Getting started is easy! Just follow these simple instructions:

Install the Libby app from the app store on your Android or iOS device.
In Libby, follow the prompts to find Reedley College Library and sign in with your campus credentials.
Browse the digital collection and borrow a title.

Your campus credentials
Internet Access
A smartphone, tablet, or ereader (Kindle, Nook, etc)
The free Libby app, which can be downloaded for free from your device's app store

Download one of the following for Windows:

Windows 8 & 10

Windows Desktop

1. A window should appear to begin setup. Select Next to continue.

2. After reviewing the License Agreement, select "I Agree" and Next.

3. You may select "Everyone" if there are multiple Windows accounts that will need access to the Overdrive app. Otherwise, select "Just Me" and Next to continue.

4. Once installation is complete, you may close the setup window.

1. For desktop users, search or browse Overdrive for audiobooks. When you've selected a book and checked it out, you will have the option to download it or listen in your browser. Complete the following steps to download the audiobook to the Overdrive app on your desktop.

2. After selecting the Download option, the Overdrive app will appear to begin your download. Select OK.

3. You may be prompted to create a new folder if one doesn't exist. If so, select Yes.

4. A new screen will appear showing all of the parts of the audiobook that will be downloaded. To download the complete audiobook, select OK. If you prefer to download specific parts, uncheck the box by "Part" at the top of the column to deselect all of the parts. Then browse the list and select only the parts you need.

5. The audiobook will download to your Media Library in the Overdrive app.

6. To begin playing the audiobook, select the title.

7. The OverDrive Media Explorer window will appear. Options include play, pause, rewind, and fast forward. You may also increase or decrease the speed at which the book is read.

8. OverDrive will save your progress as you read. When you are ready to return to your title, open the OverDrive app and select your audiobook. Enjoy!

Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines to read on your phone or tablet using the Libby app by OverDrive or on your web browser.

If you are reading on an older device or a Fire tablet, want to view our selection of streaming videos, or require the use of a screen reader, you can enjoy our digital collection using the classic OverDrive app.

Quick Tips:

If a title is not available, you can place a hold.

After you place a hold, view your spot in line by going to your Shelf, tapping Holds, then tapping Wait List.

You can view your place in line for a hold.

After you place a hold, go to Shelf > Holds and tap the calendar icon. You'll see your approximate wait time, the number of copies in use, and the number of people waiting.

You can save time by saving your preferences.

Tap Preferences at the top of your library's home screen, or at the top of any list. Adjust your filters and default sorting option. Tap Apply Preferences.

You can explore more book recommendations.

Tap Explore at the top of your library's home screen to discover your next great read. Search by subject, popularity, what's available, and more.

You can add more than one library card.

Tap the Libby icon in the top right corner, then tap Add a Library. You can search by name or zip code. Connect to your local public library to expand your options!
